Warriors fans everywhere were sad to see Kevin Durant go down in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, but no one would have been as heartbroken as his mother Wanda.
The mother and son are famously close; Wanda became a celebrity in her own right when KD called her “the real MVP” in his 2014 acceptance speech for the NBA MVP award.
When it became clear Kevin was too hurt to return to the game Monday, criticism and chatter immediately began to fly on Twitter. Some criticized the team for letting him return to game play after he missed nine games with a calf strain. Others speculated on how the new injury would affect his looming free agency.
Early Tuesday morning, Wanda tweeted, “For ALL of you who question my son as a Man, question his Heart, question his Integrity and question his LOVE for the game of basketball, you DON’T know him. He has a heart of a true Warrior! This too shall pass. God Bless you ALL.”
Prior to Tuesday, she hadn’t tweeted since March.

Warriors general manager Bob Myers was emotional, too, when he briefed the media on the injury Monday night.
“I don’t believe that there’s anybody to blame,” Myers said while choking up, nearly crying. “But I understand that this world and if you have to, you can blame me. I run our basketball our basketball operations department.”
As for KD himself, he appears to be staying positive. When the Warriors squeaked by with a very close win, he wrote on Instagram, “I’m hurting deep in the soul right now I can’t lie but seeing my brothers gets this win was like taking a shot of tequila, i got new life lol. #dubs”
The Warriors and Raptors will face off again in Game 6 Thursday at Oracle Arena.
