In their last 29 games without Kevin Durant but with Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors are a staggering 28-1.

Very few people believe that the Warriors are actually “better off” without Durant, but Curry’s recent brilliance in Durant’s absence is difficult to overlook.

In Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday night, Curry lit up the Portland Trail Blazers for 36 points after connecting on nine of 15 three-point attempts, tying his career high for three-pointers in a playoff game.

GAME RECAP: Curry, Warriors take Game 1 of Western Conference Finals

Without Durant last week, Curry exploded for 31 points in the second half of the Warriors’ Game 6 win over the Houston Rockets, knocking James Harden, Chris Paul and company out of the playoffs for the second-straight season.

Curry’s stellar play minus Durant has a number of Warriors fans and members of the media hailing the return of the “old Steph,” who won two MVP awards before the arrival of Durant in 2016.

“Come on folks. Give the brotha his props,” Fox Sports’ Chris Broussard tweeted. “It’s good to have Old Steph back!”

“Low key never gonna forgive KD for taking Fun Steph away from us for 3 years,” tweeted a Warriors fan.

Curry’s struggles this postseason prior to Game 6 vs. Houston have been well-documented, but after his performance against Portland on Tuesday, it’s hard to dispute the fact that the “old Steph” does indeed appear to be back — regardless of whether Durant’s absence has anything to do with it.
