“Insecure” may not yet have a premiere date in sight for Season 4, but its stars Issa Rae and show frenemy Amanda Seales are uniting on a Clusterfest stage this summer for a different kind of collaboration. They’re starring in a live table read celebrating the 25th anniversary of the classic high school comedy “Clueless.”
Rae will play Cher (made famous by Alicia Silverstone) while Seales portrays Dionne (originally played by Stacey Dash). Other familiar faces round out the cast list: “Broad City” star Ilana Glazer plays Tai (played by Brittany Murphy); “Big Bang Theory” actor Kumail Nanjiani takes over Paul Rudd’s Josh; SNL’s Chris Redd plays Donald Faison’s Murray; and comedian and writer Jaboukie Young-White portrays Travis (played in the film by Breckin Meyer).

Others in the cast include comedian Langston Kerman, “Broad City” actor Arturo Castro, comedian Sinbad, writer Quinta Brunson and actress Janet Varney. To set the stage, Clusterfest will also bring in Jill Sobule, who performed the film’s single “Supermodel.”
Clusterfest is also staging a drag-friendly tribute to another cult hit film: “Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion.”

Romy and Michele (originally portrayed by Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow, respectively) will be played by drag stars Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova, with Peaches Christ filling in as Heather Mooney (Janeane Garofalo in the film). Joining them are comedians and actors Matteo Lane, Catherine Cohen, Robin Tran, Nicole Byer, Rosebud Baker and Guy Branum, with San Francisco’s Brickhouse accompanying the show.
Clusterfest takes place at San Francisco’s Civic Center this June 21-23, 2019. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
